Say a friend tells you they did not back their team, they laid the other one, and you nod politely while wondering what that means. Betting exchanges are popular with cricket fans in South Asia, and they work differently from a normal sportsbook. This guide explains backing, laying, liability and commission in plain language, using made-up examples, and tells you how to find out whether JitaAce has anything similar. Nothing here is a recommendation to bet.
How an exchange differs from a sportsbook
Picture a marketplace instead of a shop. In a normal sportsbook, the book sets the price and takes the other side of your bet. On an exchange, other players set prices and match each other's bets. The exchange earns by charging a commission, usually on net winnings in a market.
Because prices come from people, they can move quickly and sometimes sit closer to the true chance. But a bet only goes through if someone is willing to take the other side at your price.
Backing and laying in plain words
Backing is the familiar one: you bet that an outcome happens. Laying is the reverse: you act like the bookmaker and bet that it does not happen.
Say, as an example, you lay a team at odds of 3.00 for a ৳100 stake. If the team loses, you keep the ৳100 from the backer, minus commission. If the team wins, you pay the backer's profit of ৳200. That ৳200 is your liability, and it must be available in your balance when you place the lay.
| Example | You win if | You receive if right | You pay if wrong |
|---|---|---|---|
| Back at 3.00 for ৳100 | The team wins | ৳200 profit | ৳100 stake |
| Lay at 3.00 for ৳100 | The team does not win | ৳100 | ৳200 liability |
| Lay at 1.50 for ৳100 | The favorite does not win | ৳100 | ৳50 liability |
| Lay at 6.00 for ৳100 | The outsider does not win | ৳100 | ৳500 liability |
Liability, liquidity and commission
The table shows the catch with laying long prices: the higher the odds, the bigger the liability. Laying an outsider looks like easy money until the outsider wins. Always check the liability figure the exchange shows before confirming.
Liquidity means how much money is waiting to be matched. Big cricket matches usually attract plenty, while smaller games may leave your bet partly matched or unmatched. Commission is taken from winnings, so it reduces every profit you make.
- Check liability before every lay bet.
- Watch for partly matched or unmatched bets.
- Factor commission into any profit you expect.
- Prices on thin markets can jump around.
Does JitaAce have an exchange?
We have not confirmed an exchange product on JitaAce. Some platforms include an exchange tab with back and lay buttons alongside the regular sportsbook; others offer only fixed-odds betting. Log in, open the sports or cricket menu and look for exchange or back and lay options. If you only see a normal bet slip, the platform is working as a fixed-odds sportsbook.
Either way, the regular cricket markets are explained across our cricket betting hub, with prices covered on cricket odds and in-play rhythm on live cricket betting. For the decimal maths behind back prices, see the betting odds guide.
A word of caution
Laying can make people feel like the house, but the house has a margin and you do not. A single upset on a long-price lay can cost several times what you collected from many correct ones. Start very small if you try it, and read our responsible gaming page for limit ideas.
Three easy steps
How to approach a cricket exchange in 3 steps
- 1Check what JitaAce offers
Log in and look in the sports or cricket menu for an exchange tab or back and lay buttons.
- 2Understand the liability
Before any lay bet, read the liability shown on the slip and make sure it fits your budget.
- 3Start with tiny stakes
Place small bets, watch whether they are fully matched, and remember that commission comes off winnings.
